This week during Praxis, our big deliverable was as follows. Learn a business tool (starting from zero) and showcase how to use it and why it’s valuable to a business. A very broad prompt, but a lot of room for freedom.
When I needed to decide what tool to use, the idea of using an AI tool stuck out to me. I’ve never really used AI much before, so I thought it would be interesting. After looking through a TON of AI tools, I settled on Opus Clips.
WHAT IS OPUS?
Opus Clips is a software which harnesses the power of AI to create short-form content from larger pieces of media, like podcasts. It can create multiple clips simultaneously, all from one piece of media. It’s super useful for content creators, and is trusted by over 1 million creators on the internet.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Using Opus Clips is painfully easy. Once you create an account, (I used the free version, which allows you to upload 30 minutes of video a month) you’re able to choose what piece you want to get clips from, paste the link or upload the video into Opus, click “get clips in 1 click”, and boom, you’re done.
During this process, I chose to focus on Andrew Huberman’s podcast, Huberman Lab. During this podcast, he talks about how we can use science and science-based tools in everyday life. I uploaded sections of 3 different episodes to make up my 30 minutes of video.
I was able to get 25 clips from 30 minutes of video I uploaded. These clips ranged in length from 20 seconds to a minute, and some were better than others. A great feature of Opus is that it gives clips a score. The clips I got ranged in score from 99-70. Here’s a 99 rated clip:
And here’s a 73 rated clip:
Now, the lower rated clip isn’t bad. It’s just that the first clip gives a detailed introduction to the podcast episode, and doesn’t leave anything out. The second clip could use a bit of context, and overall isn’t as complete as the first clip.
Along with the score it gives each clip, Opus Clips creates an AI-generated title and an overview of what qualities the clip has. Here’s what someone using Opus sees when their clips are created:
You’ll notice that there’s a description of the video in terms of its quality as a shareable clip. There’s also a transcript created for the video, and captions are automatically put into the video for you. I’ll put this clip below. While watching, notice how some words are highlighted. These are “keywords” which the AI has identified as centrally important to the video. The captions even include relevant emojis.
Now, the clips I’ve shown you are straight from the AI, I’ve left them the way I got them. A clip like the one above is shareable with minimal editing. For some of the clips with lower scores, additional editing might be needed to make them of good enough quality to post.
Did I mention you can edit your clips in Opus? Just click edit, and a new screen will pop up allowing you to change multiple aspects of the clip. In this editing screen, you can change the captions, switch the font or colors, trim your clip to your liking, or even change the layout of the clip to accommodate multiple speakers.
WHY IS IT SO VALUABLE?
Opus Clips is most valuable for content creators looking to push out tons of content. With a paid plan, you can get thousands of clips each month, all without having to pay an editor or spend time looking for each clip yourself. While you might need to do a bit of work to perfect each clip, you’'ll save a TON of time with Opus.
Thanks for reading. Here are the podcast episodes from which I got clips, if you’re interested:
